Oman shuts borders to visitors again
--
Oman yesterday (April 5) announced 1,117 new Covid cases, taking the total number of infections to 164,274 for a country with a population less than five million.
The Sultanate’s hotel sector has struggled to turn a profit while the country continues to reintroduce movement and travel restrictions. The total number of guests staying at the Sultanate’s three to five-star hotels dropped by 47.2 percent YOY in February, registering at 169,000 guests.
Omani hotels received 1.77 million guests and the hotels generated total revenue of OMR229.5 million ($594.1 million) in 2019, however, with lingering travel restrictions in place and fears of Covid variants, the country has had a stop-start journey to recovering its hospitality sector.
